The cartridge or tape drive typically occupies an internal drive bay. It may also be an external unit, connected to the computer through |cables|. An external housing of sturdy plastic or metal protects the internal components from damage. In the front of the housing are the cartridge or tape slot, ejector button, and indicator light. In the back of the housing are the connectors and screws holding the back panel.
